In detail
The appointment portal FAQ (version 1.0, effective 16 August 2026) names eleven categories under which booking “may be available”, subject to slots for the respective Mission and visa category. Set against the High Commission's “VISA DOCUMENTS: CATEGORY-WISE” document:
- same name in both: Tourist, Medical, Business, Student, Transit
- only in the FAQ: Miscellaneous, Family, Diplomatic, Work, Journalist, Official
- only in the document: Muktijoddha, Entry, Defence and Police, Conference, Employment
The FAQ does not say which booking category the last five fall under. Its booking steps have no step for choosing a category, and it does not say how the portal knows yours. We have found no official source that maps one list onto the other, so we do not pair them up by guesswork. “Work” and “Employment” sound alike, but nothing official says they are the same. Two more things:
- a category on the list is not a promise of slots: the FAQ says slots depend on the Mission and the category
- which documents you need is a separate matter: see the checklist for your visa type
